The Ugandan government plans to deploy 140,000 electric motorcycles in partnership with Spiro, a company that designs electric vehicles and smart batteries.
In its agenda to phase out combustion engine-powered motorcycles with electric motorcycles, Uganda also plans to introduce 3,000 EV charging stations across the country in the next 5 years.
The project will see Uganda issue motorbike owners with free electric replacements, putting the country ahead of its East African counterparts in the adoption of electric mobility solutions.
Spiro hopes to make recover its costs from charging and replacing the motorbike batteries.
