The streets of Khartoum were deserted on Sunday after the warring sides placed roadblocks following clashes between Sudan’s military and the country’s paramilitary force that left more than 100 civilians dead.
“All civilians have been urged to stay at home, but that has not kept everyone safe. There are lots of people either being in their homes or being sort of in and around their homes, on the rooftops, in the gardens et cetera, that have been either hurt or killed by a stray bullet,” Sudan’s Doctor’s Union told BBC.
This is the first time the city has recorded turbulent clashes which were common in the western Darfur region. The clashes have claimed the lives of many including an Indian national who was working in Sudan.
