Kenya’s Defence Cabinet Secretary, Patrick Mariru, will launch the country’s first operational 3U Earth Observation satellite in California this Saturday.
Taifa-1 will be launched aboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenberg Space Force Base and is expected to provide data on agriculture, natural resources management, disaster management, and environmental monitoring, among others.
The landmark satellite was developed by Kenyan engineers at SayariLabs in partnership with a Bulgarian aerospace manufacturer, EnduroSat AD.
The project cost a total of KES 50 million, according to The Star.
